Offered in Fall Semester.
Fall semester students receive instruction in advanced performance techniques as well as sound fundamental training on their instrument. Students engage their school in a meaningful way through performances at school events, marching band competitions, and local parades.
No experience required - students receive PE credit for this course.
Offered in both Fall and Spring Semester.
Beginning Jazz Band
Students will learn the fundamental skills and nuances of jazz music. Prior knowledge on an instrument is suggested due to learning the new “language” of jazz. Students will study and apply the principles of music theory and improvisation while performing level appropriate jazz music. Students will have several public performance opportunities throughout the year.
Advanced Jazz Band
The advanced jazz ensemble requires prior jazz experience and is therefore audition based. This ensemble explores a challenging repertoire of music meant to propel students to perform to the absolute best of their abilities. Students participating in this ensemble must have a developed sense of ensemble playing, and a firm grasp on performance technique and rehearsal etiquette. Students will have several public performance opportunities throughout the year.
Offered in Spring Semester.
Students take on a repertoire of wind ensemble music that will challenge students at all levels. The students will gain valuable ensemble performance experience while expanding their theoretical understanding of music. Concert Band is offered year round during school, and after school in the Spring for students with class conflicts.
Offered in Fall and Spring Semester.
This class is a string orchestra ensemble. Students will receive instruction on performance techniques specific to their string instrument (Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass). Students will engage musical literature while learning and mastering the fundamentals of music. There is opportunity in this course for new music students to begin a course of study on any orchestral string instrument.
No experience required.
Offered in the Spring.
After the marching band season comes to a close, the winter season for drumline and color guard begins. Students compete with schools all over Southern California by performing a very demanding indoor show. Students will receive instruction in advanced marching and performance techniques. The front ensemble is expanded from the marching season to include as many mallet musicians as possible.
Students receive PE credit for this course.
